Betty White

Last night I was working on the computer, while reruns of South Park played in the background. The Roast of William Shatner came on, and since it wasn't censored, I left it on. Roastmaster Jason Alexander led the pack.  Artie Lang, George Takei, Andy Dick, Farrah Fawcett, Jeffrey Ross and a few others took the stage.

But the best moment happened when Betty White took the stage. She sure knows how to "talk some shit." Click on the pic to watch this. NSFW…so keep the volume low.

PS What do you think of the new video display? I am all about keeping the site loading quickly these days.

The Lakers have not won a Xmas day game since 2001, against Iverson and the 76ers. 5 years and 5 losses later I am officially sick of Xmas day games. I plan my entire day around the game. Why? It's disappointing.

In 04, Kobe took the team into OT and had he hit that final 3, they would have won. That was a let down. Last year, the Lakes spent most of the game with a 10pt lead, then they let that one slip away.

With Shaq sitting out it, this years game was dubbed the Wade/Kobe match up. The Lakers didn't stand a chance. The looked like visitors tired from their road trip. Tired from the Make-A-Wish and other charitable Xmas events they participated in. Kobe seems sick, and just not feeling it. He shot 1 - 9 in the first half. I can shoot 1 - 9. 11%. Yep, I can shoot 11%.

I miss the old days when I used to do stuff on Xmas. Disneyland, movies, BASE jumping and street luge. I hope the Lakers don't play next Xmas. What is supposed to be a tradition is just making me sad on a day of joy and peace. It's hard enough being a Jewish kid who is supposed to eat Panda Express and not get presents. Why do I also have to deal with Lakers losses each and every year?

Year Opponent W/L Score
1999 San Antonio Spurs W 99 - 93
2000 Portland Blazers L 104 - 109
2001 Philadelphia Sixers W 88 - 82
2002 Sacramento Kings L 99 - 105
2003 Houston Rockets L 87 - 99
2004 Miami Heat L 102 - 104
2005 Miami Heat L 92 - 97
2006 Miami Heat L 85 - 101

In the past 7 years and 8 Xmas Day games, the Lakers are a mere 2 - 6. Raise your hand if you think this tradition is just whack! I bet there are a lot of hands in the air right now.

By the way, what happened with the HD coverage? Did anyone else notice that the game was not in HD on the HD ABC channel until 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter? I commented (to myself) how unHD the game appeared. The logo was fuzzy and distorted and the background was far too blurry for HD. After a commercial break, with just over 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, the ABC HD logo appeared in the bottom right corner and the game was in 1080i. Did they forget? Did the only guy who knows how to operate the HD switch at ABC come in late? Is there only 1 guy and 1 switch? And if so, why? I guess I will just chalk that up to part of the unpleasant and joyless experience known as Xmas Day Lake Show.

Next year I am going to Hawaii for Xmas and hopefully the Lakers won't be playing.

Only 6 days (at time of the post) left till my favorite holiday, New Years. What's not to love? It's about partying and being with friends and family. In the morning you get a fresh start. We make resolutions and while most of us will break them by the end of the day, we have an entire year to do something different. To do something better. To change. To grow. To learn. To work. To play. A New Year. I can't wait till 2007.

I added a counter to the upper right. –>

Happy New Year!

Superman Returns

Superman is BoujieSuperman Returns was just awful. It's many years later but Lois Lane is in her twenties? Even Spacey seemed too young to play Lex Luther. I haven't checked IMDB yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if Kal Penn's character is named Kumar the mute. He is FAR too recognizable from Harold & Kumar to have a silent role. I imagine there are hours of Shakespearean dialog on the cutting room floor. Perhaps his character only speaks in monologues from Macbeth?!? Bryan Singer felt the audiance wouldn't relate and cut ALL his speaking parts. Is that what happened?

The effects were boujie. Even the logo was altered to have a bubblegum feel. It's boujie. Last summer, one of the guys delivering my couch, commented on the commercial that was playing. He said, "ah man, that movie (Superman) was BOUJIE!" He couldn't have said it any better. I don't normally take cinematic advise from the doode delivering furniture, but maybe I should. I bet he liked Babel.

Babel

I went into this movie with a lot of expectations. When most of my friends hate a movie that is usually a great indication I will like it. I really liked Amores perros. I like that method of story telling. I found Babel to be everything Crash attempted to be. It is a very unique story. The authenticity of each culture is amazing. Iñárritu is able to capture Moroccan, American, Mexican and Japanese and tie it together, as loose as the tie may be. Without spoiling anything I must say my favorite interaction was between Anwar and Richard (Brad Pitt). As they are getting on the helicopter and Brad tried to give him money, his refusal showed the true compassion of humanity. He didn't go through that for a reward. He didn't want compensation. Helping another human being in his most vunerable time of need was a reward in itself. Those two Moroccan boys, who apparently have never acted before, were terrific actors. Well done.

It's been a week since Billy King and Mo Cheeks asked Iverson to stay home. Philly has dropped 9 straight and they won't win again until something finally happens. So where does one of the league's most prolific scorers, 2 time MVP wind up?

Where does Iverson go?

  • LA Clippers -  This would be the best fit. Maggette hasn't done anything for this team since the Quentin Richardson, Darius Miles days. CMag is always hurt and moving him won't make anyone in LA flinch. We lost Shaq, we can lose Corey. Shaun Livinston will become a great point guard. The Clippers are close to finally becoming a Western conference contender. They can't wait for Livingston. Brand is ready now. They have the veteran Cassel. Iverson could run the backcourt with Sam. He'll get the 45 shots per game he needs and everyone in LA will stoked. Kobe and Iverson in the building on any given night.

  • Minnesota Timberwolves - Kevin Garnett has been waiting 11 years for this. He needs a costar. He needs a scorer. He'll handle the boards. He'll handle the scoring but he has never been a player to go for 40 consistently. As the lone ranger of his team, he needs to be. Ricky Davis has never proven anything except a couple of minutes of explosiveness. He's a journeyman at best. Minnesota has a collection of small guards they could get rid of. Iverson and Garnett could play the perfect duo. That will be one hell of a give-n-go.
  • New York Knicks - They could move one player and it would most likely cover the cost of Iverson…and Korver. Isaiah, think about this. Francis is out. Give them Marbury. Philly will do it. Call them.
  • LA Lakers - There has been more talk about this being a reality than I could have ever imagined. Early this week Phil said they are entertaining the idea. The rumor is Mihm, Kwame and Smush. How can this be even considered? Sure Mihm is out and he is on the high end of a mid level contract. Kwame is not an 8 million a year guy. But I will give him credit, he has been working his ass off and he is balling right now. Smush costs us nothing and he is productive. Especially on D. There is no reason to move him except with addition of Iverson he won't have any playing time.
  • Miami Heat - They have been mentioned. They are so depleated right now I can't even begin to try to put together a serious trade. Wade is out for the next game with Wisdom tooth drama. Shaq is out for his routine pre all star game vacation, and Jason Williams is hurt. There is no way with the amount of type A personalities already on that team, Iverson could be there. He is friends with Shaq, so who knows. I can't imagine male model DWade likes this idea.
  • Boston Celtics - They are most likely going to get him. They are always on the edge of being a good team. They have Paul Pierce and with Iverson they might be able to run the East. They have a bunch of expiring contracts and young talent. They have the bargaining chips and despite being in the same conference this is the 2nd best fit.

"Someone should tell the Lakers' perimeter defenders that Luther Head [Houston Rockets] is right handed, and plans to stay that way for the remainder of the game!"

I have never participated in a meme. Needless to say, I have seen something another blog and used it for inspiration to write something (better). I got tagged by David, so in true chain letter fashion, I must continue…or face a fate far worse than death.

Here are 5 things you didn't know about me.

  1. I have been arrested 4 times (all before I was 18).

  2. I worked at Starbucks for less than 2 weeks. I have also worked at Brentanos and Crown Books.
  3. My second favorite NBA player is LeBron James. He is followed by Tracy McGrady, Jordan Farmar and Allen Iverson.
  4. I believe the Lakers should KEEP Lamar Odom.
  5. I have a twin sister who has the same (high) count of Midi-chlorians.

There you have 5 things that you didn't know about me. Now for the fun part…passing it along. So here you go Abhilash, Andrew, Jon, Joel, and Gretchen. Keep it going.

PahrumpLast month, the wonderful city of Pahrump created a city ordinance making English the only acceptable language. There is something really ironic about forcing the staff of a Mexican restaurant to speak English. The CTO of my last job barely spoke English (I think she was, I just couldn't understand her).

In case you aren't familiar with the family fun Pahrump has to offer, I'll fill you in real quick. Pahrump is 60 miles north (and slightly west) of Las Vegas. It's a small, rustic, country style town with fresh air, no traffic and tons of firework stands/stores. There are plenty of camp grounds and lots of trails to watch the beautiful desert sunset. Pahrump is most well known for it's (legal) brothels. Pahrump is home to the world famous Chicken Ranch (don't go there unless you like $10 Hollywood and Vine girls) and the extremely classy (and high priced) Sheri's Ranch (yes the girls are worth the $$$).

Prostitution = LEGAL; Mexicans speaking Spanish = ILLEGAL.

Pahrump is not the only city with so much family fun. Prostitution is actually legal in all of Nevada. The law states that a brothel may legally operate in any city where the population is less than 100,000. That eliminates Las Vegas and the surrounding cities inside of Clark County.

Just a few days ago,  Pahrump fought to make all illegal residents file with the city, pay a $200 fee and supply the names of their family members and employers. In a city that celebrates so much liberty, doesn't this seems a bit draconian? Luckily this ordinance didn't pass…for now.

Give us your tired, poor and hungry…I guess that only applies to English speaking prostitutes.

It's been a while since I have posted solely on the hot music. So here it goes.

Top 10 Songs - December 2006

  1. Kreuzberg - Bloc Party
  2. Hip Hop is Dead - Nas
  3. 9 Crimes - Damien Rice
  4. Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol
  5. Public Enemy #1 - Eminem
  6. Throw Away the Book - MC Verse
  7. Tell Me - Diddy (Feat. Christina Aguilera)
  8. Set Fire to the Third Bar - Snow Patrol
  9. Karma Police - Radiohead
  10. Bloc Party ft Apathy Remix  - Fort Minor & DJ Green Lantern (Mixtape)

Those are the tracks that are currently in my heavy rotation. Hip Hop is Dead is definitely a genre changing track. Nas has always been one of my favorite rappers, but this puts him up another notch. He is able to express what we are all feeling. Hip Hop is dead…we need Nas to save it.

In 2003, Eminem said "Hip Hop is in a state of 911" and yet no one came to the rescue. Jay Z announced his retirement the following year. Talib has single handily tried to shoulder the burden. He can only do so much. The Roots are fighting the fight and RZA never fails. Talib gets help from Common and Mos, but those GAP commercials aren't necessarily helping revitalize Hip Hop. Can Aftermath bring back 1992? I would even settle for circa 2000. Def Jam, can you do it? RZA and the Wu have something planned but the last Meth album was far from Tical or Tical 2. Verse, I know you are ready for the challenge.

5 of my top 10 would not technically be considered Hip Hop. Although if it's in your heart you can listen to Gregorian Chants sung by Travis Tritt and it would still be Hip Hop. I listed my 10 favorite tracks, regardless of genre. Music is music.

I recently spoke to DJ Delinquent. He says the album should be dropping early spring 07. Can he do it?

"Hip hop just died this mornin'
And she's dead, she's dead"
