Spaceroach.com is officially the property of What Da Phuk! Well not officially, I still have to do that whole transfer domain thing. Unfortunately, sacrifices had to be made for this to happen. As a blogger, I am constantly struggling with “should I post that? Can I say that? Is this too far?”
As we (bloggers) progress as writers we learn the limits and dance along the line. I know I have personally affected others in the past. I truly hope they were all hot college girls that immediately disrobed and had a pillow fight. But unfortunately the reality is you can hurt people with something as stoopid as a blog.
So while I continue to offend the masses on What Da Phuk! please note I have some pretty big plans for spaceroach.com.
Space Rooooaaaaaach…dot com…coming soon!
I finally did it. While waiting for some ranking reports to finish, I finished the upgrade of Wordpress 2.5. Holy-phuking-shit it is much better. Not just the back-end. I have noticed the front-end (the website) loads much faster too.
Since this is an upgrade, I upgraded the design…slightly. I changed the font, font-size and link color in the posts. I am still messing with sIFR for the post titles. I want to have some calligraphy headlines. I am also working on a new social bookmarking plugin.
So enjoy…I know I will.
Ok, ok, this is now my second time installing Wordpress 2.5. It is soooooo much faster. Time to upgrade. Can’t wait any longer. Must do it this weekend.
I just used WordPress 2.5 in a live environment. Holy shit they sure did fix the load times in the admin. Unless I am completely missing something, the Dashboard is not customizable. I must be missing some settings link, cause all I can change is the RSS feed. Anyway, to quote Josh Axelman, “this shit is ridonkulous, it’s the bomb shit, leroy jenkem. knibb high football rules!”
After reading the aritcle by Dougal Campbell, Upgrade or Else, I now have no choice but to upgrade within the next week.
WDP is getting a new home. The time has come. A brand new building. It opened Jan 08. I am the 14th person to move in. Trying to figure out which Plasma (or DLP) is most definitely a great problem to have. It’s a refreshing change. It’s pretty crazy how quickly the pendulum can swing from good to bad. It can happen over night.
The past 15th months have been a humbling journey. I carried my spoon through the good, the bad and the really bad…and the really really really bad (no plumbing, construction and screaming birds). I made it. I carried my spoon. I spilt some water. But I made it.
Focus. Believe. Resilience.
È il momento di ubriachezza. Raccontaci le ragazze oltre a venire, il decollo e ottenere la loro abiti nel mio letto. Stiamo per fissare il tetto sul fuoco in questa casa.
For those of you that are interested – in the very near future, I will be writing technology based blogs on another blog. I will provide all of the details as soon as we are ready to start publishing. The posts will mostly cover Web 2.0 topics such as: Social Media, SEO, AJAX, JSON, Comet, E-Commerce, CSS 3.0 and Blogging itself.
There is a lot to cover and a lot of time I find that WDP is not the best outlet for these posts. It’s tough to follow “Bryan Spears is the father of (sister) Jaime Lynn’s baby” with a post on using JavaScript to create equal column heights in a pure CSS XHTML layout. So we’ll keep talking about irreverent satire and I’ll move the serious posts to a serious place.
The WordPress 2.5 preview just a mini preview of what’s to come.
Holla! Can I get amen?
I have created a photo gallery dedicated to my trip. If you look at the top of the page, over towards the right, you will see a link sitting next to Home. It says Dallas. You can also access it by going to www.whatdaphuk.com/dallas/
I just started taking pics. I will continue to post new ones so check back often.
It’s been a successful and exciting week for What Da Phuk! A brand new web site, brand new CMS, brand new site design and brand new (dedicated) server. While the transition has been rather smooth and bug free (knock on proverbial wood) there have been a few hiccups. Converting 503 posts and the categories has not been an easy task. Some of the archives didn’t make it all the way. I used XML RSS to upload the posts and something must have cut them off. As I find the errors I will fix them.
The comments are back and I am glad they are. I have all the old comments but I don’t think I will be placing them back. That will be far too time consuming and I can’t really see why. I read them. It’s all good.
I added many outbound links to the sites I recommend you read. I converted all the categories to tags and added a tag cloud. You can’t be 2.0 without one.
Some of you are landing here because you have been stealing my images for years. If I plan to use an image I find on the internet, I download it and host it on my server. I don’t rely that it will be there tomorrow. It’s not smart to assume, but thanks for coming to What Da Phuk!
This is the first post. It’s very exciting. I can’t believe I have a new What Da Phuk! If you are reading this then you are on the new site. Take a look around…let me know what you think.
Yes, it's finally true. I am not just saying it to say it. I have been working on it and am almost finished with What Da Phuk! 2.0. Some of the key new features include:
- A dedicated server running Fedora Core 5.
- Brand new CMS utilizing LAMP technology.
- A Web 2.0, user friendly, aesthetically pleasing site redesign.
- mod-rewrite for pretty URLs
- Social Network Tagging
- The return of the comments
Those are just a few of the major updates taking place. The design is 95% complete. The CMS and server setup are 100% complete. I am working on importing 500+ previous blogs. Once that is complete, I will make it live. I can't believe this finally happening.
For the past week, I have been having problems with the hosting company that currently hosts What Da Phuk! Host Department is the worst host I have dealt with. Their servers aren't allowing me to access the box via FTP via Passive mode and is failing on the force to PORT. In other words, I can't motherphuking upload any motherphuking images.
This especially sucks because I have compiled the worlds largest Bar Refaeli picture gallery and I am unable to display it. The world needs more Bar and Host Department is preventing this. I am also unable to post the second gallery from the world's greatest artist, Sunil Bhanot.
This is the reason the blog posts have been sparse. Every time I am about to blog I am reminded that I can't post pics…and my hatred for Host Department starts to consume my entire soul. But in the end it's my fault. I have hated them for a while and I haven't moved away. I will get this fixed ASAP and remember to stay away from Host Department.
As I actively begin the spring cleaning for WDP, I am going to be benchmarking quite a few things. The first test will be the removal of the comments. As I push the site more into the realm of Web 2.0, I am aware removing the user interaction is a step in the complete opposite direction. However, while I make a transition to the LAMP architecture, I must keep this (current) server running smoothly.
Certain blog posts have been a magnet for blog spam. I have been thinking of the true importance of the comments, and I believe they are necessary (in some form). But on the flip side, this is my soap box. I get to stand here and say whatever it is I want. I don't really care what you say down there on the paved ground. I am up here preaching, proselytizing and peddling my thoughts. That's what What Da Phuk! is about. The only way I can be sure if I need this conventional comment system, is to remove it and see if I actually miss it.
Don't user comments seem a bit 1.0? It's just a collection of vertical (date) descending statements with no collaborative thought. Is a forum the answer? Then again, do I even care what YOU have to say. Time Magazine might think this all about YOU. What Da Phuk! is all about ME!!!
*All the non-spam comments will be preserved.*
