02Golden State is For Real, Dallas is a Big Momma’s House
While Digg users refused to be silenced, so did the Dallas Mavericks. Golden State had Dallas on their backs. They were up 3 - 1 and were about to close out the series, in Dallas. Most people didn't see this coming. I did.
All season long I have said Dallas is overrated. They managed to net an impressive 67 wins. They had many double-digit win streaks. including a 16 game one, that was snapped by the Lakers. Their success is formulaic. I will say it again. Their success is formulaic. Let me explain.
The movie studios can release Big Momma's House 3 all day, every day, and it will more than likely be a blockbuster success. It will crush on opening weekend and it will stay in the theaters for many months to follow. But despite all of the financial success Big Momma will produce, it will never win an Academy Award. It won't win Golden Globe. It won't even win a People's Choice Award. Dallas is Big Momma's House. They found a formula that works for them for the better part of the regular season. While Avery Johnson has made vast improvements in their defence (he gave them some), their D is still suspect. They don't really have a strong inside presence and they collapse time and time again.
I was at the game in 2002, when Dallas lead the Lakers by 28 in the 4th quarter. They lost that game by 2. I have seen them lose a 20 point lead against the Clippers and lose the game due to a Glen Rice buzzer beater. I know these are a few, single game examples. Last year they were 5 minutes from capturing a 3 - 0 lead on the Miami Heat. They were clearly the better team. Mark Cuban and company were about to be 1 game away from the NBA trophy. Down by 15, Dwayne Wade flipped his switch and brought the Heat a victory. The Heat went on to win the next 3 games. Dallas collapsed. Dirk went on to say that Cuban interferes with the games. He claimed Cubans boisterious antics were causing the refs to hold a grudge against them. Mark put the team up for sale and made moves to purchase the Chicago Cubs.
Dallas had their shot last year and blew it. Golden State matches up with them. Don Nelson is very familiar with Avery Johnson's coaching style and knows all of Dirks moves. The Warriors didn't really have their two best players for most of the season. But now everyone is healthy and Golden State is showing they belong in the playoffs. They are ready to ball. Dallas, nice win tonight but I think we all know it will be an early summer vacay for you this year.
