14Pahrump: Where Prostitution is Legal and Mexicans are Not!
Last month, the wonderful city of Pahrump created a city ordinance making English the only acceptable language. There is something really ironic about forcing the staff of a Mexican restaurant to speak English. The CTO of my last job barely spoke English (I think she was, I just couldn’t understand her).
In case you aren’t familiar with the family fun Pahrump has to offer, I’ll fill you in real quick. Pahrump is 60 miles north (and slightly west) 60 miles west and slightly north of Las Vegas. It’s a small, rustic, country style town with fresh air, no traffic and tons of firework stands/stores. There are plenty of camp grounds and lots of trails to watch the beautiful desert sunset. Pahrump is most well known for it’s (legal) brothels. Pahrump is home to the world famous Chicken Ranch (don’t go there unless you like $10 Hollywood and Vine girls) and the extremely classy (and high priced) Sheri’s Ranch (yes the girls are worth the $$$).
Prostitution = LEGAL; Mexicans speaking Spanish = ILLEGAL.
Pahrump is not the only city with so much family fun. Prostitution is actually legal in all of Nevada. The law states that a brothel may legally operate in any city where the population is less than 100,000. That eliminates Las Vegas and the surrounding cities inside of Clark County.
Just a few days ago, Pahrump fought to make all illegal residents file with the city, pay a $200 fee and supply the names of their family members and employers. In a city that celebrates so much liberty, doesn’t this seems a bit draconian? Luckily this ordinance didn’t pass…for now.
Give us your tired, poor and hungry…I guess that only applies to English speaking prostitutes.
